So guys…our overnight stay in Long Island turned into a weekend getaway in Connecticut, of sorts.
We didn’t realize how bad the snow was supposed to be (seems like not too many people did?) and we left the Island at 2:30pm. By 6:30pm we were still in New York. To give you a comparative, we should have been through New York and Connecticut, and about an hour from home. We couldn’t go faster than 20 mph, and passed 10+ cars spun out and stuck on the highway. When we finally cross the border into CT, we stopped for gas and food. The bad side streets and red lights on rolling hills resulted in us almost getting stuck a few times.
Over Wendy’s, we reviewed the maps. Predicted time of arrival at home was 10:30pm. BUT, that’s how long it would take without the snow, driving at 50-60 mph. There was no way we were getting home by 10:30. We decided to stay and booked a fancy hotel room through Priceline for $100. Then we stopped at Marshall’s 10 minutes before closing time to pick up some clean underwear and sweat pants. Then we checked in and emailed our bosses.
It was an unfortunate set of circumstances. We could have stayed in LI. We should have left earlier. We would have saved a lot of money had we done either. But, we didn’t, and we made the best of it.
I have quite a bit of catching up to do – on here and at work. I did manage to do most of my school catch-up yesterday. I have a recap of my No Dessert Challenge and my February recap in the pipeline! Coming soon! Pinky swear!
