Makeup Monday: PLAY! by Sephora

I’m pretty sure I was on a waitlist for a year before finally getting this. Was it worth it? I guess so.? Unlike Birchbox and ipsy, it does not personalize your shipment. There was no style quiz. However, the products they sent are pretty bomb, anyway.

One of my favorite things about this, besides the fact that I don’t get hideous makeup bags with it, is that they give you this booklet with lots of information on each product and ideas for using it:

  • Lancome Drama Liqui-Pencil Longwear Eyeliner ($23)– Truly applies like liquid.  It does not smudge, which was hard for me because I usually blend in my eyeliner, but if you like liquid, this is much easier to apply.
  • bareMinerals Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm in Plumberry Pink ($16) – God, this name is ridiculous. Very oily and glossy.  Extremely bright.  I don’t love it or hate it.
  • Tarte Lights Camera Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara ($21) – Claims to be lengthening, curling, volumizing and conditioning.  I’ll give them lengthening and conditioning.  No volume or curl, though.
  • Tom Ford Black Orchid Perfume ($115) – Very flowery.  A little headache inducing, but not the worst I’ve smelled.
  • Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural Lipstick in Copper Pink Satin ($20) – I love Make Up For Ever lipsticks.  Creamy, nourishing and buildable – the consistency of a good chapstick.  This color is a little too orange/brown for me, but I do like it.
  • Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder ($27) – Pretty standard dry shampoo.  I like that it’s a powder, not a spray, but the sample size dispenser is a little difficult to use (there’s only 1 hole!).  It’s not heavily perfumed, which is good or bad depending on your preferences.

Sunday Runday 2/28

  • 2 arm workouts
  • 1 ab workout
  • 2 days PT for knees
  • 2 days PT for ankles X
  • 1 run, if my knee feels 100% at the end of the week
  • 4 days 1350 calories – No joke.  I’m buckling down this week. X
    • I met my goal for 1 day, and was within 100 calories 3 other days.  My average calories per day was 1624, which has been my lowest average!  Progress?
  • Weight = 137 lbs
  • Waist = 34.5 inches

  • Monday 2/22 – Arm workout (1 set of 15) + PT for Knees – 2 things in one day…booyah!  Also, my knee does not hurt walking and I can make it down one flight of stairs with no pain.  Once I can get down 2 flights pain free, it’s off to the races for me (or, realistically, a 2 mile run, but yeah).
  • Wednesday 2/24 – PT for Knees & Ankles
  • Friday 2/26 – Arm Workout (1 set of 15) + 15 minute abs (2 sets of 9 of these) – I was late for work, but it was worth it?  That’s what happen when I’ve already taken 2 rest days by Friday – gotta double up the workouts.
  • Saturday 2/27 – 2.3 mile run [17:40 pace] – I tried to run with the dog again.  She would only run for a block at a time, hence the pace.  But that was probably a good start given how my knee has been bothering me.

  • 1 gym class
  • 2 ab workout
  • 2 days PT for knees
  • 2 days PT for ankles
  • 2 runs
  • 4 days 1350 calories – Gotta keep it up!

Stitchfix Review

I got my first Stitchfix box yesterday!  It was….okay.  Stitchfix is a stylist by mail service, so to speak.  You sign up, pay a $20 styling fee, and fill out a profile.  The profile asks your size and style preferences in all different types of clothes.  You can add a link to a Pinterest page and give them any notes you want about your style or upcoming events or specific items you want.  Then, you schedule a shipment and they send you 5 items.  If you buy any of them, your $20 styling fee is applied to the price, and if you buy all 5 items, it’s an additional 25% off.

I’m keeping in mind that, with feedback, your stylist gets to know you better.  I ended up buying 2 things out of it, though one was way more expensive than I’d normally pay, but it was cute, soooo…idk colin farrell shrug doubt in bruges

And here is me as a perfectly rectangular column. Ick. I did NOT buy this dress.

Jeans were super cute, but too big. I did buy this grey, lace sleeved shirt, though, for $48.

See the cute lace sleeves!!

This sweatshirt was $68, super heave, and awkwardly draped. TERRIBLE

See the awkward bunching?!?!?!

I love this necklace AND it was only $28! KEEP!

Makeup Monday: Ipsy is back! February

Ipsy is majorly missing out on the “gift” market.  Birchbox lets you send somebody a 3 month generic subscription.  In order for my mom to give me Ipsy for Christmas, she had to create an account on her email and answer the beauty profile pretending to be me.  It’s kind of awesome because now she gets all their annoying emails.

I got my first bag since I canceled my own subscription and s’alright.20160216_183551.jpg

  • Bag – Hideous design with an even hideous-er texture.
  • The Balm Mr. Write (Now) Eyeliner in Scott B. Bordeaux ($17) – Beautiful dark brown with hints of maroon and purple.  Very difficult to wash off in the shower, so you know it lasts all day.  I think this is my new favorite eyeliner.  Dark enough, but with a distinct color, so it’s more exciting than brown or black.
  • treStique Blush Stick in Bora Bora Coral ($34) – Nice, creamy peach color.  Goes from crayon to powder in a smooth transition.  Very blendable.
  • Naked Cosmetics Mica Powder ($14) – Glitter?  What the hell is a 29 year old woman supposed to do with glitter?!  It seems like a nice glitter.  I guess I’ll save it for the multitude of bachelorette parties I have to go to?  After checking out their website, it looks like Naked Cosmetics sells the raw pigment for makeup and you can apply it with their primer type products, including clear nailpolish.  Interesting concept.

Top: Mica Powder; Middle: Blush Stick; Bottom: Eyeliner

  • My Amazing Hair Secrets Leave In Conditioner ($14) – Barely scented (which TBH was kinda disappointing cuz I love the smell of coconut) and the nozzle on the sample size leaves something to be desired.  But, it softened and conditioned my hair nicely without leaving it greasy.
  • Perfect Formula Pink Gel Coat ($30) – This is almost completely clear, so I don’t understand what I use it for.  Base coat? Top coat? What makes it a gel?  It says it comes off with regular nail polish remover.  Forgive me, I’m very confused.  It seems like a nice strong base coat that dries super quickly.

I’ll be reviewing my first Play by Sephora next week.  Get excited.
