I’ve been shopping around for a good smokey eye palette for the wedding. I have most of the stuff I need, but I needed a quality black/dark shadow for the crease. I also wanted a good light, shimmery pink for the lid. Yes, I’d considered the wide variety of Naked palettes, but there are too many to choose from AND they’re all expensive (buh bye $54…see ya never). Many other palettes I’ve looked at have either all shimmery colors or all matte. That seemed to be the biggest selling point of Urban Decay’s Naked one – it has a good mix of both.
Well, my friends, while strolling through Nordstrom Rack I found the Smashbox Double Exposure palette for ONLY $24!!! It has the dark, matte shadow I need with a variety of light, base choices ranging from champagne to rose to mauve. All with so much less fall out than my Too Faced palettes and more pigment than my Sephora brand shadows.
I was pumped. So far, for wedding makeup stuff, I’ve purchased a full new set of Royal and Langnickel brushes for only $20 from Marshall’s and now a palette with a brush and 14 shadows for only $24. The real cherry on the top was finding the Smashbox Full Exposure (very similar, but not meeting my needs as well) at Macy’s for FIFTY TWO DOLLARS.
I was not motivated this week…at all. I didn’t even do anything this weekend, yet still skipped my long run. I also ate like crazy. Of course there are excuses for all of this – turnover and goodbye parties at work, wedding mama drama, etc. But, I should funnel that negative energy into exercise. Should, being the operative word.
Tuesday 8/23 – 3.2 mile run @ 9:58 pace – Good lord my legs are sore from 9 miles on Sunday. And it’s dark out in the morning again. So no one could see how well I unintentionally matched my shirt and pants to my sneakers. Ha!
Friday 8/26 – 1.9 mile run @ 10:16 pace + a variety of push ups – Lord, my calves hurt.
Saturday 8/27 – Standing Abs and Arm Sculpting Challenge (2 sets of 10)
This week I’m going to run more, workout less, and institute yoga Sundays. I’ve been trying to do yoga periodically throughout the week, but it feels like an add-on that I frequently do not add on. So, I’ll try doing one day of a thorough yoga class. After this week, I’m going to sign up for 2 boot camp classes per week until the wedding (which is in 5 weeks!!! ahhhh)
Sally Hansen in Greyfitti ($7) – I don’t understand why this is “gel” color, and it’s not exceptionally hearty (ed. I guess I’m supposed to use their Miracle Gel top coat because OF COURSE I am), but the pale, ceramic gray beautiful. Not too dark to be unprofessional, but just subversive enough to be an edgy neutral. Yeah, I just described a nail color as subversive… Tangent – What is greyfitti? Is it trying to be confetti? Or Nefertitti? Why doesn’t it have sparkles?
Sinful Colors in Kule as a Kukumber ($4) – Cucumbers are NOT this color green (maybe ones spelled Kukumber are?), but this pale, sea foam green color with a bit of sparkle makes the herculean task of removing sparkle nail polish worth it.
Essie in Skirting the Issue ($9)- The only real fall color of the bunch, this is a smoky merlot. It is slightly transparent and requires careful application, or else your nail beds look like they’re bleeding. My own inadequate application is why I stick mostly to lighter colors, but sometimes you just want the badass, sexy red nail.
