Sunday Runday 5/28

SUMMARY

I did absolutely nothing but run this week.  I know I need to take care of the rest of my body, but running is simple and easy….until I get hurt.  I need to make myself stretch and do PT exercises this week.

WORKOUTS

  • Monday 5/22 – 7 mi @ 12:01 min/mi – After a whole week off, this run felt amazing.
  • Thursday 5/25 – 3.1 mi @ 9:44 min/mi – Oh boy was the race rough and I don’t think I’m liking my trail shoes.
  • Saturday 5/27 – 8 mi @ 11:51 min/mi – Not bad, not bad.

GOALS

  • MAY RESOLUTIONS: Don’t buy anything for yourself (no clothes, makeup, etc.) – necessities only — 2 more days of this, thank god.
  • JUNE RESOLUTIONS: Go to sleep by 9pm on weeknights.
    • This does not feel possible AT ALL.  But I resolved to do it, so I’ll try.

Holy crap, I did a whole lot of nothing this week.  Well, not nothing.  I watched entire seasons of Big Little Lies, Girls and Master of None.  I also went out for drinks at 2pm on Saturday and got home at 3am.  I also went to a baby shower.  These are all accomplishments in their own right, trust me.

It’s one week.  I’m not going to beat myself up over it.  I just can’t let it continue.

GOALS

  • MAY RESOLUTIONS: Don’t buy anything for yourself (no clothes, makeup, etc.) – necessities only
    • This has been going well so far.  I’ve mostly broken my habit of online window shopping.  I’ve only spent money on food for myself and joint activities.  This is all with the (very large) exception of my tattoo…
  • Marathon training:  This week was supposed to be 3, 3, and 8 miles, but since I didn’t run last week at all, I’m changing one of the 3’s to a 7.

    • Week 6: 3 – 4 – 10

Blister Solutions!

I started getting blisters last year, and I’ve tried everything.  Moisturizing, Vaseline, baby powder, deoderant, new socks, new shoes, Nexcare, Compeed, Bandaid…I think the list goes on.  Compeed’s blister pads are really great when the blister is fresh and needs to heal.  They stay on for ~2 days, even through showers.  Nexcare’s blister pads come in 2nd.  They are followed by Band-Aid’s, whose effectiveness vary by style.

However, for blister prevention, I’ve started using Spenco 2nd Skin squares.  They are these gel-y cushions that you need to tape over your blister-prone spots.  $30 for 200 on Amazon, though I got them through the FSA Store though, so I bought them pre-tax.

For the tape, I got Nexcare’s cloth tape that comes on a normal tape roll, so that I don’t have to get out the scissors.

This solution lasted overnight and through a 9 mile run the next day.  No budging, no peeling, no loss of adhesion.  My new saviors!!

SUMMARY

    • Umm, got some more work done on my tattoo that is on my inner biceps.  After 4 hours under the needle, my arm feels like jello.  There was no way I could downward dog after that.

  • Wednesday 5/10 – PT + 3.2 mi @ 10:32 min/mi
  • Thursday 5/11 – 3.4 mi @ 11:31 min/mi – Ooof look at that pace difference from yesterday…
  • Friday 5/12 – nothing
  • Saturday 5/13 – 9 mi @ 12:24 min/mi – There were a LOT of 13 minute miles in there.  Yeaaaaa
  • Sunday 5/14 – nothing

  • Marathon training:  This week will be a little challenging to get in all my mileage with a healing tattoo, so I expect to only get in 2 of these runs.
