Makeup Monday: Ipsy, April 2016

  1. |★★★☆☆| nth Degree Smoothing Moroccan Argan Oil ($14) – Okay.  I mean, I don’t know what it’s really supposed to do.  Currently all it does is make my hair static-y.  I assume, over time, my hair should feel healthier, so I give it stars for promises.
  2. |★☆☆☆☆| Star Looks Cream Eyeshadow in Rose Gold ($???) – Pretty color, but goes on cakey and clumpy and does not play well with other products.  Also, their website sucks and I couldn’t find anything like this.  Here’s what it looked like by lunch time…all splotchy:
  3. |★★☆☆☆| Tarte Cosmetics LipSurgence Lip Creme in Wonder ($24) – It’s a nice color, but a little bright.  And the formula is drying and not on my lips within a few hours.
  4. |★★★☆☆| Skinn Cosmetics Bright Eyes Enhancing Eyeliner ($18) – This is kinda cool.  You apply to your waterline and it makes your eyes look bigger.  It’s a very made-up, doll type of look, which isn’t my usual style, but I’m glad I get to try it.
  5. |★★★☆☆| Pur~Lisse Beauty Masks ($8) – The actual mask was good – left my skin feeling renewed and refreshed (which, I believe, is what it says on the package).  However, I HATE these sheet masks.  They don’t stay on well or fit your face correctly, and you look like you’re wearing a Hannibal Lector mask.

Overall, the bag is cute, but I already threw out the eyeshadow, I’ll the give lipstick a second try, and will only use the eyeliner sparingly.

I promise I will find a good spot in my house to take pictures if its the last thing I do. haha

Make Up Monday – October Ipsy Bag

Pleather and gold bag – I actually threw this out.  It felt sticky and tacky and was much smaller than usual.

  • Nourish Organic Argan Face Serum ($24 for the full size) – I failed to realize that serum = oil (pre-coffee ingestion, so I think I’m forgiven?) and spilled some on my new white bathmat.  You have to hold this bottle upside down and turn over quickly in your hand.  It has no instructions, so I don’t know if I’m suppose to use this at bedtime, as a moisturizer, in the shower….IDK, I never use oils!  It smells nice, though.  lol
  • Beauty Without Cruelty Lotion ($12 for full size) – Pretty standard lotion.  Same as Lubriderm or anything like that.  They tell you on the back to add essential oils of your choice to make it scented which is pretty cool.
  • Aurora Gel Effect Nail Lacquer in Inky Dinky ($9) – Brownie points for a cool name!  Great dark color.  Good application and coverage.  However, I assumed “gel effect” meant that it doesn’t chip.  I was wrong.  Chips on the ends of each nail within an hour.  Will use top coat next time.
  • The Balm Meet Matte Hughes liquid lipstick in Committed ($17 for full size) – This sample is teeny tiny – which is good because I don’t like it.  Nice, inoffensive color, but I hate the drying liquid lipsticks.  They make my lips feel like rough patches of skin and they tend to fade out to a crispy line around the outside.  Trash.

new phone did not improve my selfie game

yeah, this is me trying to take a picture of lipstick…deal with it

  • Royal & Langnickel Medium Eye Shader ($3)- Apparently this company makes paint brushes AND make up brushes, which is a cool portfolio diversification.  I’m not picky about brushes – this one is fine.  I just wish it was smaller.

Total value if full size is $65 and I threw out both the lipstick and the bag itself.  Starting to consider canceling this subscription.  Especially with added dog expenses.

Makeup Monday – Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara

THE LAST FROM MY LASHSTASH BOX! Smashbox mascara’s price tag come in CHEAP at $20 – makes sense that it was the only full size one in the box.  After a year or so of using sample size mascaras, this wand feels HUGE.the office animated GIF

As I mentioned yesterday, I have no internet at home, so I wasn’t able to take good pictures and load them from my camera.  Thus, you’re stuck with cell phone pictures:

This mascara works well for separating and “multiplying” lashes, not so much on the volume.  It doesn’t hold a curl very well, but it doesn’t rub off all underneath my eye, either.

In conclusion, it’s an OK mascara that I would necessarily buy, but I’m not mad I have a whole tube of it.

Here is, based on my previous reviews and my memory, my ranking from best to worst of every mascara in the 2014 Sephora Lash Stash!

  1. Lancome Hypnose ($27.50)
  2. Smoky Extravagant Mascara ($24)
  3. YSL Faux Baby Doll ($32)
  4. Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara ($20)
  5. Benefit They’re Real! Mascara ($24)
  6. Clinique High Impact Mascara ($16.50)
  7. Josie Maran Argan Oil Mascara ($22)
  8. Sephora Outrageous Curl ($15)
  9. Buxom Lash ($19)
  10. Kat Von D Immortal Lash ($20)
  11. Urban Decay Perversion ($22)

Second Chances for Mascara

Out of the mascaras I’ve tried so far, there were a handful that didn’t make the cut.  I won’t even use them in the rotation until they’re gone, let alone buy them.  Before I throw them away, a drastic step when they came from a $50 sample pack, I wanted to give them a second chance.  I suffered through half the week with raccoon eyes, all to give them a fair shake.  And to give you some truly horrendous pictures.  Enjoy!

Urban Decay Perversion $22

My original review is HERE and the second time around yielded very similar results.  Notice the chic black eye look on the left.  Yeah, no.  Not happening.  This picture was taken at 12:44PM – that’s 6 hours of wear.  I have no idea when it started to look like I had gone swimming, as I was in meetings all morning.  Imagine getting out of meeting with people to find you look like THIS.  It’s like finding your fly unzipped hours after you went to the bathroom.  Not good.  Needless to say, this mascara is now in the trash.

Urban Decay Perversion

Josie Maran Argan Oil Mascara $22

I briefly mentioned the raccoon eyes from this one in my first review, but I thought that the benefits outweighed the melting effects.  It’s really dark, pigmented black.  A softer formula.  Natural!  But, upon wearing it a few more times I moved it to the discard pile.  I liked the idea of this more than the actual product.  This picture was taken at 4pm, so it did last longer than the other two.

YSL Mascara Volume Effect Faux Baby Doll $30

I thought this one was more of a winner.  Maybe I was just super disoriented from the dentist that day.  I don’t even remember what made me take it out of rotation.  Given the lack of jarring memories, it definitely deserved a second chance.  I didn’t want to hold a grudge.  Turns out, raccoon eyes strike again!  Picture taken at 11:20AM, 5 hours after application.

God the lighting in the bathroom at work is AWFUL – I won’t do this to you again.

That’s that.  I don’t give third chances.  Unless they’re in next year’s LashStash.

Also – I swear I don’t look like this when I leave the house in the morning!!
