Makeup Monday: Ipsy, August 2016

The bag this month is really pretty and I’m loving the mascara, eyeliner, and nail polish!

  1. |★★★★★| Ciate Spinning Teacup nail polish ($13) – Beautiful matte, pale purple polish.
  2. |★★★★★| Rodial Smokey Eye Pen ($21) – Great, dark black eyeliner.  Goes on smoothly; only smudges a smidge.
  3. |★★★☆☆| Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara ($23) – Decent mascara.  Not super voluminous, but it does multiply lashes – giving you natural, feathery lashes.
  4. |★☆☆☆☆| Beaute Basics 3 Tone Bronzer – Too bronze/fake tan for me, but seems nice if you’re into that.
  5. |★★★☆☆| Madame CJ Walker Beauty Culture Blow Out Creme ($26) – It did seem to stay straighter, but still needed a flat iron to hide the frizzies.

Makeup Monday: Ipsy, July 2016

  1. |★★★☆☆| Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Mascara ($25) – This is a thick, black XXXX MASCARA (what did you think I was going to say??).  A little on the sticky side (god the jokes just don’t stop), but the lashes stay separated.  Pictured here with the banana powder and eyeliner:
  2. |★★☆☆☆| Bella Pierre Banana Setting Powder ($35) – I first heard about this when I read about Kim Kardashian and “sandbagging” and wrote about it HERE.  Article: Why You Should Add Banana Powder to Your Makeup Bag.  Honestly, I don’t totally get it…yet.  I need to use it a few more times, I guess.  I have a couple different translucent powders and they seem to do a better job of setting and soaking up oil.  So, uhh, s’okay.Es okay #JuanPablo:
  3. |★★★★★| Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in No Filter ($15) – LOVE this slightly purple-hued beige polish.  There it is with only ONE coat and already almost full coverage.
  4. |★★★☆☆| ML Cosmetics Felt Tip Eyeliner in Emerald Isle ($13) – Beautiful color with staying power.  I don’t love the felt tip.  It is very fine, so there’s no room for error.
  5. |★★★☆☆| Nunzio Saviano Anti Frizz Sheets ($18) – I didn’t know such a product existed. I don’t think it does a ton for frizz, but it makes my hair super shiny and smells like delicious coconut.

Makeup Monday: PLAY! by Sephora – June

This box was dubbed The Minimalist.

  1. |★☆☆☆☆| Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It ($31)- This is a creme that is supposed to help with air dried hair.  Since I hate blow drying and straightening, I’ve been looking for something like this.  Leave in conditioner + mousse has worked pretty well.  The first day I used this, I did as instructed and clipped my hair in a bun for awhile to tamp down the frizz, but I don’t think I left it long enough because it was hella frizzy.
The second day I left the bun in for 2 hours and the results weren’t much better.  I tossed this.  I have no room for products that barely work.
  2. |★★★★☆| Bare Minerals bareSkin Bronzer ($28)- This is a beautiful transparent bronze.  I docked it a star because it’s so liquidy that I accidentally pour out much more than I need.
  3. |★★★☆☆| Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real Mascara ($24) – Reviewed before here.  One of my least favorite.
  4. |★★☆☆☆| Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($32) – I wore this for a run, and when I showered afterwards everything felt slimy and gross, so I can’t imagine wearing it swimming.  I also tossed this.
  5. |★★★☆☆| Becca Backlight Priming Filter ($38) – Beautiful looking product with a flattering shimmer.  Seems almost sad that it gets covered up by foundation.  I like it, but I prefer a matte look, so the shimmer “backlight” isn’t for me.
  6. |★★☆☆☆| Tocca Beauty Florence Perfume ($68) – It’s not terrible, but still too flowery for me.  I also hate when samples come in little tubes with just a cap, no sprayer.
