Make Up Monday – October Ipsy Bag

Pleather and gold bag – I actually threw this out.  It felt sticky and tacky and was much smaller than usual.

  • Nourish Organic Argan Face Serum ($24 for the full size) – I failed to realize that serum = oil (pre-coffee ingestion, so I think I’m forgiven?) and spilled some on my new white bathmat.  You have to hold this bottle upside down and turn over quickly in your hand.  It has no instructions, so I don’t know if I’m suppose to use this at bedtime, as a moisturizer, in the shower….IDK, I never use oils!  It smells nice, though.  lol
  • Beauty Without Cruelty Lotion ($12 for full size) – Pretty standard lotion.  Same as Lubriderm or anything like that.  They tell you on the back to add essential oils of your choice to make it scented which is pretty cool.
  • Aurora Gel Effect Nail Lacquer in Inky Dinky ($9) – Brownie points for a cool name!  Great dark color.  Good application and coverage.  However, I assumed “gel effect” meant that it doesn’t chip.  I was wrong.  Chips on the ends of each nail within an hour.  Will use top coat next time.
  • The Balm Meet Matte Hughes liquid lipstick in Committed ($17 for full size) – This sample is teeny tiny – which is good because I don’t like it.  Nice, inoffensive color, but I hate the drying liquid lipsticks.  They make my lips feel like rough patches of skin and they tend to fade out to a crispy line around the outside.  Trash.

new phone did not improve my selfie game

yeah, this is me trying to take a picture of lipstick…deal with it

  • Royal & Langnickel Medium Eye Shader ($3)- Apparently this company makes paint brushes AND make up brushes, which is a cool portfolio diversification.  I’m not picky about brushes – this one is fine.  I just wish it was smaller.

Total value if full size is $65 and I threw out both the lipstick and the bag itself.  Starting to consider canceling this subscription.  Especially with added dog expenses.

Make Up Monday – September Ipsy Bag

This is the ugliest bag I’ve ever received.  Fake bronze vinyl and weird texture.  Yuck.IMG_1091

  • Formula X Nailpolish in Ignite ($10.50) – I’m not really a red nails kinda girl, so this isn’t my color, but the formula is awesome.  Here’s full coverage with one coat!  And it didn’t chip til the 3rd day.  For me, that’s pretty damn good, and I think it’ll do even better if I’m not too lazy to do a 2nd coat next time.
  • NYX 3 Color Shadow Palette ($3) – This color trio was created specifically for Ipsy and it’s a really nice palette.  A pale, metallic beige for highlighting, a warm, buildable copper, and a matte black that lines perfectly.  I love it!
  • treStique Mini Matte Lip Crayon in Nantucket Nude ($28) – Like the nailpolish, it’s a good product (a little drying), but not my color.  I’m not keen on having Kardashian lips that match my skin.  If that’s your thing, this is great.
  • Vasanti BrightenUp! Exfoliating Cleanser ($5) – This was extremely gritty.  I wouldn’t use it more than once a week, and would not recommend it if anyone has  sensitive skin, but it was a great exfoliator.
  • Annabella Let’s Lash It Out by Juvias ($5.50) – Last time I tried falsies they ended up a few millimeters above by lash line, but I’ll give it a go.  I have no idea when, so don’t hold your breath for a review.

Total value if full size is $52 — the cheapest bag by far.  Did they real me in with the expensive stuff, only to bait and switch to drug store goods?  It’s still a good deal, but only if you use the products.  I liked all the stuff this month, though, so they’ve kept me on the hook.

Five Thing Friday

  1. Still matching my dress to my sneakers.  Baller status.
  2. Ignore my cuticles – all that extra nailpolish I waste comes off in the shower.  I swear it looks much better, now.Which is why I’m wondering why I took the picture when I did.  Anyway.  I painted my nails one of my favorite Essie colors, Go Ginza ($8.50).  It’s this beautiful, almost white lavender that’s perfect for spring.
  3. Made the most delicious, ridiculous dessert this week with shit I have in my pantry:
    1. 1 scoop peanut butter
    2. 1 bigger scoop of fluff
    3. 1 scoop of chocolate chips
    4. 1 scoop of Life cereal
    5. Mix all together as best you can in a bowl and eat with a spoon.
    6. Immediately soak bowl in warm soapy water because fluff is a clingy bitch.
    7. Yes, it’s period week.16 Things That Inevitably Happen When You're At Work And On Your Period
  4. Weekly commuter rant – a guy next to me on the bus smelled bad.  I was getting nauseated.  This complaint sounds very run of the mill, but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what he smelled like!  Until it hit me all at once – the dentist!  He smelled like the dentist.  I don’t know if it’s the fluoride or the cavity filler, but the smell makes me want to vomit.  I hate the dentist and I hated that man on the bus.
  5. My coworker has a cold and people keep telling her to take Vitamin C and Vitamin D and Zinc and whatever other natural remedies there are.  She loves it because real meds don’t do much for her.  I’m the opposite.  None of the natural remedies have ever done anything for me.  I need pharmaceuticals.  If it doesn’t require your license to buy it, then it doesn’t work for me.  (<– This is something I would tweet if I had a Twitter…just so ya know.)

Makeup Monday – Buxom Lash Mascara

I’m back to my LashStash mascaras.  So far from the box, I liked Kat Von D and Lancome Hypnose.  I’ve already run out of Kat Von D and used up the rest of my old Covergirl mascara, so I’m down to my original Clinique and the Lancome one.  Time to try new ones!

I was surprised to open the box and see 5 mascaras left.  I thought I had reviewed the majority of them already.  It was a nice surprise for Monday morning.

I picked up Buxom Lash Mascara ($19) to try today.  The wand is very large and rubbery.  The length of it made it a little difficult to get in the corners and it felt like it pulled too much, like it was sticking to my lashes.  The look of this mascara is good for everyday.  It lengthens a little bit and darkens a lotta bit.  It is not, however, buxom.  There is no thickening going on here.  It wouldn’t hold up well with a smoky eye or other heavy, going-out makeup.  If it lasts through the day, I’ll add it to my weekday rotation, but I probably wouldn’t buy it.  Why choose a mascara that gives you less volume?

BONUS – Nail of the Day

Since I pick my nailpolish (and cuticles, as you can see), it really only lasts a day or two.  Which means I’ve already replaced my sparkly blue nails (removing the sparkly layer was a bitch).  This is Nails Inc. Jermyn Street.  In some light it looks like poopy brown:

Meanwhile, in other light it’s a nice dark mauve:IMG_0470

I really like it as the mauve.  Not so much as the shitty brown.
